Domenica (Nic) Roperto holds a Bachelor in Behavioural Science (Psychology) and a Bachelor of Social Work. She has been working in the field for thirty years and is a registered clinical mental health social worker. Nic has a high level of experience in treatment of trauma with a variety of case types including motor accident trauma, child abuse, and family violence.
Nic has worked in a wide variety of employment sectors including Work Cover and Comcare rehabilitation providers, hospitals, youth refuges, the Transport Accident Commission and emergency services providing direct casework, service coordination, mediation, training, and rehabilitation management.
She has completed advanced studies examining the psycho-physiological manifestations of trauma and how to treat these using a holistic body-mind approach based on the research of Drs. Peter Levine and Bessel Van der Kolk. Nic’s honesty and down to earth nature allow her to quickly build a rapport with those individuals she seeks to assist through her work; even those for whom trust is an issue. She is also a highly skilled trainer and public speaker.
Nic brings a refreshing approach to the teaching of mindfulness which has led to real results. Individuals struggling with high levels of anxiety often believe they “cannot meditate”. Nic uses a combination of the work of Jon Kabat Zinn (Full Catastrophe Living) and Dr Stephen Porges’ work (The Polyvagal Theory: Neurophysiological Foundations of Emotions, Attachment, Communication and Self-regulation) to help people find calm in their own lives.
Nic’s firm belief in the principles of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy come through in her work. We have one life, this is it, and regardless of what has happened to us, if we can use our expertise of ourselves and the values we hold close we can achieve change for ourselves.
